A rather unexpected find of gemmy Sodalite in yellow-orange color range has occurred quite recently in Afghanistan. We have been looking at the material and it seems that the strongest color is found in the most included of stones - an all to common situation in the gem world. We finally have sourced a bit of clean material that retains the highly unusual hue. From that comes this entirely clean and well cut stone of an excellent size for a clean gem. As you might suspect, the material is highly fluorescent - the middle photo above showing the gem under longwave UV.
