The quintessentially rare species, Poudretteite was named for the family who operated at the Mont Saint-Hilaire deposit, where it was first discovered.  In the last decade there have been a trickle of gems coming from the area around Mogok; these range from colorless to pink and smallish stones are the norm. Gems approaching the onc carat mark have always been, and continue to be, extremely rare. This lovely colorless gem is impressive in size and quite impressive in its cutting - the lozenge shape looks great on the material and gives the stone an even larger face-up appearance. A few thin wispy inclusions, but nothing distracting, this is a nice opportunity to get a larger gem example of a very rare species - always one of the trophies of gem collecting.
