One of the rarest of collector's gems - and one of the most beautiful.  Originally described from a find of the mineral in Finland, gemmy Väyrynenite has only been documented from some very rare pegmatite finds in Afghanistan and Pakistan.  References to these can be found in both the Summer 94 and Spring 06 issues of GIA's Gems & Gemology.

The color is superb, the classic intense pinkish-orange of the species.  Väyrynenite is only very rarely encountered in gem grade and only a few gems have trickled onto the market over the last decade; it remains one of the rarest of the rare.  This is a gorgeous example - the clarity and size are both remarkable.  The stone has been recently, and very nicely cut - it is just a touch shallow but given the norm for these, it remains extremely well done.  That and the color is just outstanding - intense even for Väyrynenite.
