Among the most storied of all gems, we don’t often get to offer fine Trapiche Emeralds as the truly good ones are so few and far between. The unique spoke like pattern of their carbon inclusions cause the immediately recognizable fixed star - the name comes from the type of grinding wheel used locally for sugarcane. It is extraordinarily difficult to fine gems that check all the boxes; that is, they have a well centered pattern, fine color, good size, and otherwise fine clarity. We loved this one the moment we saw it and consider it to be exemplary.
The size is quite impressive, as is the fine color. The Trapiche pattern is well centered and perfectly delicate while the gemmy sections are extremely clean - as with the finest of these each section shows individual chatoyancy. Excellent shape and a superb polish, this is the largest and finest we have been able to offer. With GIA lab report as well.

We were rather taken by a small parcel of Emerald of magnificent color and some fascinating inclusions. In addition to the usual black carbonaceous inclusions (which look rather nice against the green) there were a few stones with very prominent golden Pyrite inclusions. Some of these are entirely inside the stone and others come to the surface so even the luster is quite interesting. The gemmy Emerald portion is very transparent as well - the photo makes this seem a bit more opaque than it actually is. While there were a few small faceted examples, the largest and most impressive is this one - a stunner at over 7 carats. The color, set against the golden Pyrite and deep black is nothing short of magnificent. A gorgeous object.

Cut: Rectangular Step

A legendary material, Torrington Emeralds are known for their distinctive color banding alternating between grass green and completely colorless (Goshenite). These have always been rare and seem to grow in reputation each year. This is a lovely and perfect smaller example - the color banded being further accentuated by the elongated cut. Classic.
