Calcite
Calcite
Color: Very Light Pink
Clarity: Eye Clean
Origin: Coahuila, Mexico
Cut: Custom Shield
Treatments: None
Measurements: 20.3 x 16 mm
A remarkable gem that is as beautiful in-hand as it is fascinating. In standard lighting, the gem is light pink and, with Calcite’s optical properties it is very dispersive and dazzling. Entirely clean and very large, the cutting and polish have been done by an AGTA award winner and it shows - simply fantastic. Now for the fun part; under longwave UV the gem has a moderate yellow fluorescence, difficult to capture but a wild contrast to its bodycolor. Then, with shortwave UV the gem takes on an intense blue-white color that is actually a phosphoresence - that is, it continues to glow this color for 10-20 seconds after the light source is removed. A dramatic effect indeed. A gem treasure!

A simply perfect example of a difficult material cut to precision standards. While not rare, gem Calcite is close to impossible to cut and polish and to do so requires both patience and incredible skill. This wonderful stone boasts a superb polish and is exceedingly brilliant, given Calcite’s high optical properties. Entirely clean and yet still of a manageable size for the collection. Dazzling and quite beautiful with a fine light toned hue. Difficult to match at this price level.
Color: Medium Dark Pinkish-Purple
Clarity: Translucent
Origin: Paramea, Spain
Cut: Pear
Treatments: None
Measurements: 12.7 x 7.3 mm
An extraordinary stone from a scarce locality. Most of these are Moroccan and they are almost always fractured or rather light in color in smaller sizes. A truly fine, 1+ carat Spanish stone with exceptional color is now quite the rarity. Imagine then, one in excess of 2 carats with a level of transparency and saturation of color almost never seen in the species. Particularly fascinating are the just discernable growth bands still visible through the stone as faint shadows in the transparency. Excellent cutting and polish as well. We have not seen a better Cobaltocalcite, let alone one from Spain. With GIA lab report as well.
