Chrysoberyl is one of the few gem species that is more widely known for its phenomenal varieties - Alexandrite and cat's eye Chrysoberyl - than its non-phenomenal ones.  Despite that, here is one type of phenomenon we very rarely see in the species - asterism.  It is a fascinating stone with a very distinct star (one rare is slightly weaker, an almost diagnostic feature for these) and even a tiny bit of a color change as well.  Don't get overly excited as the photos tend to exaggerate this a bit, but this could actually qualify as a 'star' Alexandrite!  Wild!
