4.13 ct. Tanzanian Color Change Garnet
Color: Medium Dark Very Slightly Greenish-Brown / Red-Brown
Clarity: Eye Clean to Slightly Included
Cut: Oval Brilliant
Measurements: 10.7 x 8.4 mm
A rather entrancing stone that we recently had cut from a large piece of Tanzanian rough purchased nearly 15 years ago. The color behavior is nothing short of fascinating - a greenish golden brown in daylight and an almost reddish brown rust color in incandescent light. It is actually not too dissimilar from the change you see with Diaspore - one that is unusual in Garnet however. At times one even sees a touch of orange and is reminded of a Malaia. Thankfully, the stone remains bright and not at all dark, an issue that can plague these color changers from Tanzania. Great US cutting and just short of eye clean with a few tiny included crystals. Quite large for stones like this, a fine piece.
