Our Canadian contacts recently presented us an Amethyst or two from this very limited and special deposit found in Newfoundland in 2017. The La Manche mine has been documented and recently profiled in Gems & Gemology. You may know Canadian Amethyst from the fine specimens and stones cut from Thunder Bay material, but La Manche is highly unique - diagnostic inclusions (all present in this stone under 10x) include hematite platelets, pyrite and ‘beetle-leg’ needle-like inclusions. There are some lovely and well formed pyrite crystals that give the stone a lovely sparkle without detracting.
This one deserves special mention in terms of color as well. La Manche pieces tend to be somewhat light in smaller sizes, but the color here is nothing short of fantastic, deep and saturated. If you follow the link above to the G&G article, you will see that many stones this size end up rather light. Simply a gorgeous stone, a standard bearer for the deposit.
