Rarer than many of the other Zeolite group minerals to begin with, Epistilbite is almost never encountered as a faceted gem. We can’t recall ever having had one before, and certainly not one that was anywhere near this weight. At 4 on the Moh’s scale, it is quite soft, but the real difficulty is finding crystals of any size with any true degree of transparency. This museum grade example is not clean of course, but with a remarkably transparent and gemmy nature - there are large areas of full transparency and even some visible brilliance. Always a pleasure to be surprised by such a rarity!
