A very interesting gem with a lot going on. Of all the species that tend to have flashing inclusions, one does not immediately think of Spinel. Typical inclusions are generally fairly straightforward - veils or included crystals. This one has something a bit more; a series of small inclusions (probably Hematite) that are oriented just so to send a flash of iridescence across the surface. A ‘sunstone’ Spinel? Well, we won’t go that far, but it is certainly unique.

Moreover, in standard lighting the stone is quite sleepy as it has the ‘opalescent’ look that you occasionally see with Sapphire and even Spinel from Tanzania. There is respectable brilliance, but you can certainly say this one is unusual even without the flash. For those who appreciate the oddities of Spinel.
