Rhodizite is a rare mineral that is found at only a few localities worldwide; gem grade stones come really only out of Madagascar and it is rare in the marketplace. We seldom come across larger, fine examples and were quite pleased to have found this lovely gem - at a weight approaching 2 carats, it is extremely large for a stone of this quality. Many examples have some degree of yellow to the bodycolor; not the case here as the stone is of the scarcer colorless variety. Rhodizite has a near adamantine luster and is very hard (8 on the Moh's scale) for a stone firmly in the ‘rare gem’ category. A very fine example and now very difficult to source, particularly in weights above the one carat benchmark.
