Part of the joy of selecting from large parcels is the occasional utterly unique find. We sometimes think of these as ‘scenic’ Sapphires - they are not exactly inclusion stones, or at least they don’t have to be. This wonderfully singular stone is firstly what the trade calls ‘opalescent’ Sapphire - a phenomenon where a bit of light haze scatters the light and diffuses the color a bit. It is lovely when it works, as it does here, and when it doesn’t become patchy or plagued with other inclusions.
So, you have that - then you notice the remarkable color zoning. A single pointed blade of dark blue directly under the table of the otherwise pinkish stone. This does beg for interpretation a bit. Our first thought was a large blue-sailed yacht, but perhaps you are more into sharks? The slight angle of the blue does seem to suggest something moving away from you. A stone that gets perspective correct as well! A really remarkable thing, curious and unique.
