An almost unbelievably perfect Sapphire blue, these Nepalese Kyanites have brought new attention to the species. That said, in the past we have offered stones in the 2-4 carat range, perhaps one or two in excess of 5 carats. Nearly tripling that weight, this magnificent gem is a flagship for the species. The cutting, albeit the usual shape and ever so slightly deep, is very respectably well done with a fine degree of brilliance and no windowing.
Now that size has been dealt with, we should discuss the color. This is the absolute top grade for these and is remarkably free from zoning. In our experience, even 2 carat gems need carefully examined for colorless zones. Absolutely not a worry here. And as for the clarity, there are a few 0f the classic striated Kyanite inclusions but none that are so onerous as to detract greatly from the brilliance. Not entirely eye clean, but it in the upper reaches of quality for these, particularly give the huge size. Simply a great gem, the best Nepalese example we have had.
