The most impressive and sought-after color in the species. A bright and intense blue from a famous locale and a simply magnificent size and clarity for these. This stone is really a fascinating lesson in how to treat a special piece of rough - as is often the case with these, the zone of deep blue is very close to the surface of the crystal. A sympathetic cutter is needed to keep this hue in the finished stone, so what they have done here is to actually keep the natural crystal surface on the pavilion of the gem. Keeping the color intact, they have managed to build a symmetric and clean 1+ stone around the blue. That the stone actually has this unpolished section on the pavilion is not especially evident through the crown - really a work of genius. Furthermore, the color fills the stone face-up and there is no zoning evident until the stone is turned. See that last photo to judge just how this has been accomplished. A rarity with a great color and a great story as well!
