A magnificent and unexpected new rarity. While we have always liked and offered many Cassiterites over the years, those were typical colors - greyish, brown or very light tan. From the mines in Yunnan Province comes this highly unusual find of red/orange gems. The color is absolutely fantastic - usually a bright mix of yellow, orange and red. Here we selected the stone with the most obvious split to create a very special bi-color gem from this new material. Moreover, when Cassiterite is cut to precision you can truly appreciate the optical properties of the mineral - very high dispersion and a magnificent luster.
Superlative cutting and of the highest quality, we saw just a precious few of these from our varied sources. It does in fact seem like a very limited and select find - this stone being one of the best, surely. Loupe clean, perfectly cut and simply fantastic in this color. Outstanding collector’s gem and one of the very few such stones.
