The corundum deposit at Winza, Tanzania has been quite interesting from a gem collector's perspective. Of course, there have been some stunning Rubies and some respectable blue Sapphire - both notable in that they are largely unheated. One of the more unique finds though have been some strongly zoned pieces that have both blue and red together - essentially Ruby and Sapphire together in one stone. These are exceptionally uncommon from other deposits, despite fancy Sapphire's penchant for color zoning and make for very interesting conversation pieces. Here you have a large piece of this material cut and polished as a slice to best show the mix of colors. The overall outline follows the natural crystal shape and the stone has a fine and lustrous polish. Fascinating stone.
