Only on a few occasions have we seen true bi-color gem Spinel. While color zoning is common in other gem species, it almost never occurs in Spinel and, when it actually does, the crystal is almost never gem grade. From a small Sri Lankan find comes this lovely and interesting gem Spinel with a distinct color split between an inky-blue shade (roughly the righthand 70% of the stone in the photo) and an attractive lighter toned lavender. Rather a stark combination of colors, they usually are not so pronounced. The lavender section has a series of needle type inclusions as well. Extremely rare - a connoisseur's stone to be sure.
