Matched pair of Gahnospinel is not a term that a gem dealer needs to use very often. Yet, this is just the unusual and exciting type of material that we love sourcing and bringing to a wider market. This unique Nigerian find was documented a few years back in Gems & Gemology - Gahnospinel has slightly varying optical properties from Spinel proper and is generally characterized as higher in Zinc. The color is this typical slightly greenish-blue but can more even more toward a straight blue and, particularly in this size, the stones have the look now most associated with a ‘cobalt’ Spinel. Some very tiny included crystals but very well cut and bright and, almost unbelievably, a fine match!
