While we have had the pleasure of
offering a number of the fine gems from this US locality in the past, we have
never had a stone approach the size or importance of this piece. It is a
spectacular piece with a rich deep color, flawless clarity and precision
cutting. The well known 'blue flash' that characterizes gems from this
find is strong and very noticeable.
Gems from Jackson's Crossroads have
become quite popular due not only to the distinct flash, but also the overall
crisp bodycolor that a violetish modifier will impart. Add to this the
fact that they are subjected to no heat, like so much Amethyst in the market,
and the desirability goes up further. Large stones from this deposit have
always been problematic as the rough tends to be strongly zoned - finding an
evenly color piece (see the second photo) of this size is truly a task.
