3.44 ct. Cordierite (Colorless Iolite)

A large and exceedingly well cut example of this rare, one locality variety.  Completely colorless gem Cordierite (the same species that gives up the blue-violet Iolite) comes only from the area around Embiliptiya, Sri Lanka.  This is one of the finer, larger examples we have had.  There is no gray mask in the color (as sometimes can occur) and the cutting is exceptional; there is superb return of light and almost no extinction.  Superior example.
