14.53 ct. Pollucite
Historically, gem grade Pollucite is exceptionally rare. Prior to the find that produced this stone, any and all facet grade material came from small fragments from either Maine or Connecticut. Stones of this size and quality were unheard of - indeed, in the 1994 edition of Sinkankas' Standard Catalog of Gem Values, stones are quoted up to 10 carats, listed as often with inclusions and give a value range of $50-$130/ct! This gem is a particularly fine example of this scarce Zeolite group mineral - as mentioned for its size, but also for the great cutting and fine clarity. There are a very few of the distinctive "speck" type inclusions, but these are largely lost in the brilliance of this starkly colorless gem. Excellent polish and very brilliant. Certainly, a collector grade gem. $38 / carat - $552 total |
