4.35 ct. Phosgenite
A rare lead mineral that is exceptionally rare as a gem material - it has a hardness of only 3 on the Moh's scale and is extraordinarily difficult to cut. Despite this, the high refractive index and adamantine luster (due in part to the lead) make the prospect of gem Phosgenite somewhat irresistible to collectors. The nice dispersive flash is just evident in the second photo above. One of the very few we have been able to offer - there are literally just a handful of cutters worldwide willing to take on this gem material. From a very famous locality for this mineral. $85 / carat - $369 total |
