2.79 ct. Colorless Iolite / Cordierite

Colorless Iolite, or more correctly Cordierite, is a rare one-source variety; stones are found only in the area around Embilipitiya, Sri Lanka.  The well known deposit has been most recently written up in Gems and Gemology, Winter 1996, pp. 262-269.  Supplies of these gems has grown quite erratic in the last few years - we are always looking, but finding fewer and fewer of these.   A bright and nicely done example of a respectable size.  Great collectors or conversation piece.
