3.17 ct. Cat's Eye Rutile

Rutile is capable of producing one of the most visually unique of chatoyant gems.  Not only is the golden brown eye often quite sharp, as is the case here, but it is seen in combination with an exceptionally high luster.  In fact, the metallic luster of this piece is the highest possible on a gem material.  The first photo shows the gem with a single light point, akin to what you would see in strong sunlight.  The second photo was taken in typical ambient lighting to give you a sense of the luster.  Even better for giving you a sense of the reflection possible, have a look below and see if you can spot our business card.  Almost a gemologist's self-portrait!  These rarities are typically only found in Sri Lanka, this one is a larger and very high quality example.
