If it can ever be said that a stone is a perfect example of a gem material, this gem has to be a strong candidate.  Color?  Absolutely perfect for Benitoite, a strong blue with a slight violet modifier.  Clarity?  Flawless, even under magnification.  Cutting?  A superbly done portuguese style pear shape with just the right proportions.

With the permanent closure of the only source for gem Benitoite, the supply of this popular rarity has continued to shrink.  We have recently been somewhat taken aback by the dramatic rise in prices for larger stones - at a wholesale level, these have easily doubled in the last year.  This superb stone is a museum grade gem, and (even though we rarely use this term) an investment grade stone.
