3.77 ct. Pyrargyrite
An important rarity that is missing from many collections, faceted Pyrargyrites are few and far between. The material is scarce in facet grade, it is difficult to work with (being only 2.5 on the Moh's scale and having an arsenic component) and is solely a collector's stone. Pyrargyrite is a silver sulfide mineral and with it's intense, deep red color is often known as 'ruby silver'. Visually it is remarkable in that is has a metallic luster in reflected light, but in strong transmitted light, the stunning red bodycolor is visible. The effect is something similar to Cuprite, but the luster is much stronger. Excellent size, fine cutting and just a great rarity. $200 / carat - $754 total |
