1.87 ct. Herderite Cabochon

Herderite is a scarce phosphate mineral that is only rarely encountered as a gem material.  We recently picked up a small parcel of rather intensely green colored rough from a limited find in Pakistan.  While not facet grade rough, we thought is possible that the material could be cabbed - just back out of that parcel is this very attractive apple-green cabochon gem.  The stone took an impressive polish and actually quite gemmy.  An unusual color that is rare in this species - several stones from this find were examined and found to be the variety hydroxl-herderite.
