0.72 ct. Lazulite
As rare gems go, Lazulite is often overlooked. Firstly, gem examples are indeed rare - there are just a few localities worldwide capable of producing rough that is large enough and clean enough to facet. It is also true that faceted examples are often very small, indeed anything over 1/4 ct. is notable. Color-wise, Lazulite offers something of a range; there are some very bright green Lazulites found in East Africa, some strongly dichroic deeper brownish-greens from Pakistan and (perhaps most widely known) some medium blue gems from Brazil. Occasionally we see an example of this mineral that is extremely notable for its color - and here is one. A very deep, 'sapphire' blue that is extremely atypical for the material. Brazilian Lazulites are typically a bright medium light blue, so the color is really quite extraordinary. Moreover, this stone is the better part of 3/4 ct. which is a very respectably size to say the least. You'll notice some inclusions in the stone, these are actually fairly low-relief liquid type inclusions that are shown in there worst possible light in the photo - we guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised with the clarity in person. Superb color and quite a rarity. $265 total |
