Benitoite is an almost perfect example of a classic rare gem material; it was only ever produced at one (now exhausted) locale, is extremely attractive and is just durable enough to be a jewelry stone.  Additionally, collectors of US gem materials are drawn to it as one of the premier examples of this class.  This astonishing set shows the full range of natural colors that is known in Benitoite - from the deep violet accented blue that is considered the most desirable to a slightly lighter shade that many prefer and right through to what is perhaps the rarest stone in the set, a completely colorless example.  Truly colorless Benitoite was never found in great quantity and is valued both for its rarity and for how well it showcases the dispersion of the species.

Each stone in the set is completely clean and is cut as a matched full round brilliant.  This was always the most requested and least cut of shapes for Benitoite - the rough was notoriously ill suited to cutting rounds.  All stones are precision cuts and the polish is excellent on all of these.  A very large example of one of these sets, any round above 3 mm is now quite difficult to source.  Perfect as a collection centerpiece or the basis for a remarkable piece of jewelry.
