2.31 ct. Orange Kyanite
One of the most unusual and unexpected gem finds of the past year - and a reminder of the unusual finds still waiting to be discovered. Kyanite is known for blue and bluish-green gems, but nothing anywhere near these orange specimens has ever been discovered. This deposit has been producing Spessartine for a few years now and now this material has been found as well. There seems to be a decent amount of low grade material, but the truly gemmy pieces are few and far between. This gem was recently cut from some rough we obtained when the material became available. A 2 carat stone with fine color and minimal inclusions is quite uncommon for this orange material. Excellent, fresh cutting and a very nice polish. $120 / carat - $277 total |
