9.81 ct. Canadian Hackmanite Cabochon

There is nothing quite like the effect of the best Canadian Hackmanite.  The color change is so complete and striking that it is just an endless source of fascination for the gem lover.  Subsequent finds of Hackmanite in Afghanistan have proven that much of that material has a less complete tenebrescense - that is, a change of color based on UV light.  While Afghan pieces will 'pink' up under these conditions, Canadian stones will change from completely colorless to a bright magenta shade.  Furthermore, the change is very easily induced in direct sunlight - just a few seconds and the stone will go from left to right as the photos show.  We see very little of the original Canadian material cabbed, and this one is an artful stone and a very usable size.  Great piece.
