12.48 ct. Multi-Star Quartz
Only one locality in Sri Lanka produces this unique variety of star Quartz - and there is not a lot of this material available. If you take a look at the photo, each ray from the centered primary star is capable of producing a full star as you rotate the gem in the light. This multi-star effect is quite rare (most star Quartz has only the one star) and is well documented as being found only at this particular deposit - see Gems and Gemology Summer 1984 for a description of this material. It is actually inclusions of the mineral Sillimanite which is responsible for this unique effect. Fabulous stone for the collector of phenomenal pieces. $9 /carat - $112 total |
